Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) & Climate Change Adaptation (CCA)

Through support from the Brooke East Africa, APaD in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Pastoral Economy and Fisheries intervened to support pastoralists in Loima and Turkana North Sub- counties

This project was funded by SAII for a period of 2 months (July-August) for KSH 760,000.

This was funded by CHURCH WORLD SERVICE-CWS for 2 Years (2017-2019) for KSH 8,326,375.

This was also funded by the Lutheran World Relief (LRF) for a period of 5 Months (May-Sept 2017) for KSH 4,686,000.

Research, Advocacy, and Policy Influence

  • Facilitated communities in development of six (6) Disaster Risk Reduction Plans prepared and handed over to the county government for integration into the County Integrated Development Plan under the
  • In collaboration with KEFRI, GIZ and CARITAS, took lead in a socio-economic household baseline survey in Seven (7) selected sites with technical officers from the County Government in Turkana West and Loima
  • Facilitated research on the illegal slaughter and smuggling of donkeys within Turkana Count and the cross-border regions of Karamoja under the Brooke EA funded project.
  • Lobbied for inclusion of animal welfare in the Turkana Livestock Policy under the Brooke EA funded donkey welfare and resilience project.
