This project was funded by GIZ for a period of 8 Months (January-August 2019)

Key Achievements:

  • In collaboration with KEFRI, GIZ and CARITAS, took lead in a socio-economic household baseline survey in Seven (7) selected sites with technical officers from the County Government.
  • Supported learning and training on proposal development for CBNRM committees and developed Community Action Plans in the six (6) target sites.
  • Trained communities in planning, coordination and implementation of CMDRR and Early Warning in six (6) sites. The training will support the communities to be better prepared and more responsive to disaster.
  • Facilitated the creation of new VSL Associations, and provided VSLA kits to members in the six (6) sites.
  • Trained self-groups in the six sites on eight modules: (1) Groups, Leadership and governance, (2) Insurance Fund, Savings and Credit Policies, (3) Development of the VSLA constitution, (4) Record Keeping and How to Manage a Meeting, (5) First Savings Meeting, (6) First Loan Disbursement, (7) First Loan Repayment, (8) End of Cycle Share out and Training of local based ToTs in the VSLA methodology and management of a VSLA Model.
  • Supported an exchange visit for VSLA officials from six (6) registered groups to an established VSLA in Loarengak, Turkana North Sub County.
